Day 10

July 3rd, Feast of St. Thomas, apostle

After Mass together at St. Andrea delle Valle around the corner from Domus Guadalupe, we hopped a bus for Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. What a blessing that a wedding us prevented from visiting this Church when we went there last week! Among the many relics from Christ's passion is the finger of St. Thomas.

It is also the anniversary of the death of Antonietta Meo, affectionately known as Nennolina, a child who lived in Rome and died of bone cancer in 1937 when she was six and is buried in Santa Croce.

Our non-bus ride home was memorable. We had the joy of switching from the tram to a bus just outside the Colosseum! Gratitude for the opportunity to take photos had withered by the time we decided to walk to a different stop -- bus strikes are not uncommon. Fortunately we were on our way again in good time.

Sisters from Das Werk (The Spiritual Family The Work) joined us for holy hour and dinner, then gave a presentation on the spirituality and history of this new form of consecrated life. The Spirit is alive and active in the Church!
